What Is a Beard Pick and Do You Actually Need One?
A beard pick is a wide-tooth comb with long, widely-spaced teeth designed to add volume and lift to longer, thicker beards. Here's when you need one — and when you don't.
What a Beard Pick Does
A beard pick lifts the beard from the roots, adding volume and separating hairs that have compressed together. It's especially useful for men with thick, curly, or coily beard hair that tends to compress flat.
When You Need One
If your beard is 2+ inches and tends to look flat or compressed despite using Ironwood's Beard Oil and Ironwood's Beard Balm, a pick can add the volume and lift you're missing. It's also useful for distributing product through very thick beards where a standard comb can't penetrate.
When You Don't Need One
If your beard is short or straight, Ironwood's stainless steel comb is all you need. A pick on a short beard will just create frizz.
The Ironwood Approach
Start with a quality stainless steel comb. Add a pick only if your beard type and length call for it. Don't buy tools you don't need — buy the right tool for your beard.
