How to verify any beard product is truly vegan — and the complete Ironwood vegan routine by beard length.

❌ Beeswax (Cera Alba) — Common in beard balms. Derived from honeybees. Look for candelilla wax as the vegan alternative.

❌ Lanolin — Derived from sheep's wool. Sometimes used as a conditioning agent in balms and butters.

❌ Glycerin (animal-derived) — Can be plant or animal-derived. Look for "vegetable glycerin" specifically.

❌ Collagen — Usually derived from animal connective tissue. Sometimes marketed as a "strengthening" ingredient.

❌ Keratin — Typically derived from animal hair, wool, or feathers.

❌ Musk (animal-derived) — Traditional musk is animal-derived. Synthetic musk is vegan — check the source.

✅ Candelilla Wax — Plant-derived wax from the candelilla shrub. The vegan alternative to beeswax in balms.

✅ Jojoba Oil — Plant-derived, nearly identical to human sebum. Excellent skin moisturizer.

✅ Argan Oil — Plant-derived from the argan tree. Premium conditioning oil.

✅ Avocado Oil / Avocado Butter — 100% plant-derived. Rich in vitamins and fatty acids.

✅ Shea Butter — Plant-derived from the shea tree. Deep conditioning without any animal byproducts.

✅ Mango Butter — Plant-derived. Excellent moisturizer and softener.

✅ Vegetable Glycerin — Plant-derived glycerin. Safe and effective humectant.
