How to Use Beard Balm: The Complete Guide for Men
Beard balm is one of the most misused products in grooming. Most men apply too much, apply it wrong, or skip the oil step. Here's the right way.
Step 1: Apply Beard Oil First
Always. Ironwood's Beard Oil is the hydration layer. Balm is the seal. Applying balm without oil first is like painting without primer — it won't hold as well and won't condition as effectively.
Step 2: Scoop a Small Amount of Balm
Use your thumbnail to scoop a pea-sized amount of Ironwood's Beard Balm. Less is more — you can always add more, but too much leaves residue.
Step 3: Warm It in Your Palms
Rub the balm between your palms until it melts into a thin, even layer. This makes it much easier to distribute through the beard.
Step 4: Work It Through the Beard
Apply from the skin outward, working through the beard with your fingers. Make sure it reaches every layer, not just the surface.
Step 5: Shape and Comb
Use your fingers to shape the beard, then follow with Ironwood's stainless steel comb to distribute evenly and set the direction. This is the step that makes flyaways stay down.
When to Apply
After your morning oil application. Especially before leaving the house — wind and cold are flyaway triggers.
